Pyramidenlauf
The Pyramidenlauf celebrates its 45th edition in 2026, organized by the German School in Cairo, Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule Kairo (DEO), in collaboration with The TriFactory. This race takes place on Friday, February 13, 2026, offering runners a unique opportunity to race on the Giza Plateau, home to the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The Giza Plateau hosts world-renowned landmarks and some of the best-preserved structures remaining from Pharaonic times. The Pyramids Complex comprises the three main pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, with the Great Sphinx lying on the east side of the complex, attributed to Pharaoh Khafre. Running this 6 km course among these ancient wonders creates an unforgettable experience that blends athletic achievement with cultural immersion.
The race is open to all participants, from kindergarten children to adults, with special categories for DEO students, the DEO community (staff, alumni, and parents), and external participants. The event brings together the school community and running enthusiasts from across Egypt and beyond for a celebration of fitness, culture, and history.

The race is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Kindergarten children participate in an untimed category, while all other participants are timed and ranked according to their respective categories.

- Kindergarten (Untimed, Blue BIB)
- 1st-4th Grade (Yellow BIB)
- 5th-8th Grade (Yellow BIB)
- 9th-12th Grade (Red BIB)
DEO Community (staff, alumni, students’ parents, and parents of alumni):
- 18-39 years (Red BIB)
- 40-59 years (Red BIB)
- 60+ years (Red BIB)
External Participants:
- Under 19 years / External Students (Red BIB)
- 19+ years / External Adults (Red BIB)
Practical information
The Pyramidenlauf 2026 takes place on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Great Pyramid of Giza, with the start and finish at the helipad on the Giza Plateau. Participants and spectators should arrive at the Pyramids Complex via the Fayoum Road Gate.
Race day schedule
- 6:30 AM: Arrival of runners and spectators
- 7:45 AM: Final call to the start line
- 8:00 AM: Race start
- 9:30 AM: Awards ceremony
Race number collection
Runners can pick up their race numbers at the DEO school premises from February 10-12, 2026, daily from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Participants need to present a valid photo ID along with their email confirmation to receive their race number.
Race regulations
- Runners must complete the entire 6 km distance by walking or running without assistance
- Only runners with a race number can enter the race course (this applies to parents as well)
- Running with dogs is not allowed
- The race starts and ends at the same location (the helipad)
Timing and ranking
Runners are timed using the MyLaps Timing System and receive their full ranking after crossing the finish line. Winners receive medals and special prizes at the awards ceremony based on their respective categories.
Registration deadline
Online registration closes on January 27, 2026. DEO students are automatically registered and receive their race numbers in class.
